Great Lakes Council is helping local small businesses and tourism operators to work towards becoming sustainable by reducing their resource use and saving money on their energy and water bills. Funding has been provided by the NSW Environmental Trust to roll out the program to small business and tourism operators in the Great Lakes Area. The Sustainable Business Program will provide partnering businesses with dedicated support and assistance from Council to help them achieve their goals. Business partners will also be a part of a network of innovative and enthusiastic businesses who are striving to achieve sustainability and increase their profitability. Being a part of this network will provide businesses with a marketing edge as more consumers are making purchasing choices based on environmental or sustainability ethics. Through the implementation of this program Council hopes to take the complexity out of sustainability, to work with business to preserve the local environment, and to market the area as a sustainable destination.
