BACKGROUND
Forster Tuncurry & District Chamber of Commerce Inc initiated the Great Lakes Business Awards in 2004, to encourage business people to think about their businesses, to show pride in their achievements and to develop a regional appreciation of business excellence.
These Awards seek evidence of the many aspects of good business management principles that are required for a business to prosper. They are NOT industry based, but judged purely on the business success & management skills of similarly sized businesses.
In 2004, we had 40 entrants with 2,890 votes counted for good Customer Service and 115 business people attended the Gala Presentation Dinner. In 2005, we had 80 businesses involved, 5,000 + votes were received for Customer Service and 200 attended the Award Presentations. Last year we saw a further increase of participation.
Already some winners have gone on to win further recognition and they have acknowledged that winning a Great Lakes Business Award gave them the confidence to do so!!
