HISTORY TIMELINE
March 1940Forster Chamber of Commerce was formed
19 July 1957Tuncurry Chamber of Commerce was formed
1958Forster Chamber of Commerce opened own offices in Beach Street, Forster
24 October 1980Forster Chamber of Commerce merged with Tuncurry Chamber of Commerce to become Forster-Tuncurry Chamber of Commerce Ltd
4 August 1994Name changed to Forster-Tuncurry & District Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Ltd
21 July 1998Special Resolution of Members adopted the Model Rules of the Dept of Fair Trading and listed the following Objects:
  1. To promote and protect local trade and tourism in the area of Forster-Tuncurry, Pacific Palms and district.
  2. To initiate, support, promote or enter into any lawful movement or idea that shall be of public or community benefit or for the development, progress or advancement of the area.
These resolutions are still operative with the Department of Fair Trading
11 March 1999Name changed to Forster-Tuncurry & District Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Incorporated
April 2000Draft Business Plan prepared by Sub Committee and facilitated by Business Enterprise Centre (not fully implemented)
June 2001Sold Beach Street Forster premises
June 2002Purchased premises and moved to present location at Suite 15, 12 Wallis Street Forster
2002Strategic Development Plan drawn up and from that a Management Plan for 2002 / 2004 was completed
October 2002Agreed to a request from the Great Lakes Tourism Board to drop all reference to Tourism and felt obliged from that date to not be responsible for organising any subsequent events
11 April 2003Name changed to Forster Tuncurry & District Chamber of Commerce Incorporated

OBJECTIVES
The Objectives of Forster Tuncurry & District Chamber of Commerce Inc are to:
  • Maintain a Website for access to the business community detailing the Chamber‘s administration and operational policies and programs.
  • Produce a regular Newsletter to inform our membership base of the latest developments in business operation and upcoming events
  • Provide feedback to local, state and federal agencies on matters of interest that affect the business community
  • Provide leadership in our commitment to economic development by holding regular Business Forums to discuss issues of importance to members
  • Foster the cross fertilisation of business ideas by conducting regular Network Meetings that are open to all business operators
  • Promote an annual Business Exposition to showcase the business opportunities that operate within Forster Tuncurry and districts
  • Promote awareness of the operational skills within the business community by conducting an annual Business Awards Program
  • Support programs and activities developed by external parties that market the business community to the wider general public
  • Support programs and activities presented by external parties that informs the business community on matters of interest
  • Create a social and convivial business environment by holding a number of annual dinner functions
  • Receive membership fees and produce income from surplus assets to offset operational expenses
  • Hold monthly Management Committee meetings to discuss the operation of the Forster Tuncurry & District Chamber of Commerce Inc and to formulate and implement ongoing policy

CHARTER
The Forster Tuncurry & District Chamber of Commerce Inc is an economic entity that works for the best interests of the local business community.

The Forster Tuncurry & District Chamber of Commerce Inc identifies and serves the needs of business. It works to increase prosperity by encouraging the growth of existing businesses and fostering the establishment of new ones. In addition, it provides representation in government affairs and works with educational, cultural, civic and service organisations to improve outcomes.

The Forster Tuncurry & District Chamber of Commerce Inc is an association through which business and professional people are organised to work together voluntarily, to define and solve community issues and bring about needed improvements.

The Forster Tuncurry & District Chamber of Commerce Inc enables its members to do collectively what they might not be able to do individually in working for the best interests of the business community.


VISION
The Chamber's core aim is to support members' business interests with Advice, Advocacy and Networking opportunities, to be a facilitator for business processes and business education and to act on behalf of all business operators in Forster Tuncurry in talking with local, state and federal agencies on matters that affect their commercial wellbeing.


MISSION
To support, sponsor and promote activities and projects having the potential to progress economic and community development for the business operators of the Forster Tuncurry district.
